The demise of the Normandie

.

.

I took this photo in 1942. It is of the French Liner, Normandie. It capsized. The Normandie was the flagship and pride of the French North Atlantic Service. It was my favorite Ocean Liner. A real beauty. It was in process of being converted into a troop ship when it caught fire. Sabotage was suspected but never proven. The water poured into the ship to control the fire caused it to capsize. I took this picture a few days after the event. It never recovered and was scrapped at wars end.
